I have come to frown upon fat computer books because they look rich but, they usually turn out to be Kindergarten level, in terms of quality and intelligence. This volume is relatively slender, in color and beautifully illustrated and it is written in clear English, with little techno-babble. It is jam-packed with only useful information on a range of topics including SketchUp strategies for organizing the elements of your model, for eg.: when you should use Groups and when you should use Components; a truly vast discussion on Plug-Ins, where to get them and how to install them in order to pimp up your SketchUp, even if it is only the free version; rendering, Ruby scripting and much more. I am finally in the possession of a salient, perhaps the best manual on SketchUp!This book will appeal to architects, interior designers, and engineers but, also to youngsters who have a passion for modeling in 3d. Thank you Alexander Schreyer for this wonderful and inspiring book which unlocks the full potential of SketchUp.

First the good news. This book is well written and very well illustrated. I read the Kindle version on my iPad and the links to various websites made it a simple matter to go to the various referenced sites and return to the book when done. I appreciate the fact that it was professionally formatted and edited - something that doesn't always happen with the Kindle version of books. And I appreciate the author's depth of knowledge and very readable style. It has current references to a great many plug-ins for Sketchup, some of which I am sure I would find helpful. I hesitated to buy the book at first because paying more than thirty dollars for an ebook just seems pricey, but after reading the early reviews, I decided to go ahead.Now the bad news: I am an architect who designs houses. I love to use Sketchup to develop the design and convey the concepts and ideas to the client with a Sketchup model. I work back and forth between AutoCAD and Sketchup, creating the final construction documents in AutoCAD, but I am intrigued by the possibilities of staying in Sketchup for the final drawings too. But I am not there yet. To me, architectural design is about the creation of the design. This book is primarily about the photorealistic presentation of the design. While I am very impressed with what others do with photorealistic renderings, I have zero interest in perfecting the reflections off of a sphere or programming in Ruby. I share the blame for expecting this book to be about what I think of as "architectural design with Sketchup" because the subtitles gives a hint, but the free Kindle preview - the first part of the book - turned out to be most of what I was interested in in the book. I read it through to the end and was impressed by the quality of the writing and detail, but it was not what I was expecting.For someone interested in photorealistic rendering with Sketchup, this is certainly a five star book. For me, it was a disappointment.

All this book did was prove to me that SketchUp (I endearingly call it F*%kUp) is a worthless tool. The book spends two chapters skimming over modeling and then plows head long into describe, in brief detail, all plugins you will need to download and install if you want the program to be even semi useful. Followed up by a bunch of chapters going into how you can attempt to produce crappy renderings. I'd rather go out and buy a box of crayola crayons and some cheap sketch paper and render by hand.

I am a professional and specialize in architectural drafting, modeling and visualization. Architectural Design with Sketchup is a must have for any level of designer, artist, student or architect. Anyone who has used Sketchup can tell you that it is very intuitive to learn and very fun/addicting! Also, anyone using it at a professional level will tell you that its true power lies in its complex and evolving abilities. This book gives a brief refresher on the fundamentals and then dives into many, if not all, of the diverse and functional uses of the program. I use Sketchup every day and I my weakness has been finding and accessing the right plugins for my workflow; this book has a great chapter dedicated to plugin usage along with where and how to find them. I am confident that this book can improve your Sketchup skills, or at the very least inspire you to model and try some new and exciting ideas.

Good source for SketchUp material, not as good as the SketchUp for woodworkers at Fine Woodworking, But it does cover some of the ground that is missed there. Still need a good book for Architectural Sketchup Design though.... I didn't find what I needed for Layout, but it does have some great sources to look through.

It is written in an awesome format, comparing the modern head of the family to the agent in charge of a security detail. It takes you from the profesional's responsibility to what the civilian must do.At the price there is no reason that a person interested in personal security should not have this in their library. If you don't know who Pat is I would recomend checking out his vids on YouTube. He is a beast, a true warrior, and imagining him as a family man, the "Sentinel" is fun.

As someone who travels often into questionable countries and cities around the world, the advice from Patrick McNamara has reinforced my defensive awareness protocol and added concepts that leveled my preparations up significantly.I have read many stories or watched surveillance video where the victim did not know, violated or forgot the concepts from this book and paid a serious price, including death.The book is filled with words of wisdom and checklists to keep on track. Absolutely a gem for all of us staying sharp to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

I wish my wife could have read this when the kids were young and I was army so she could understand the way I think because I'm not articulate like TMac.Many not employed in certain fields of work will find this extreme BUT if they look closely they accomplish many of the tasks daily without knowing it or the terminology. You may not understand "frag order" but it's simple like "load up we r going for ice cream".When an operator of this skill level tells you not to look for trouble you should take heed. It doesn't mean you hide either, you prepare and react.

Pat Mac is a great teacher and he writes clear and concessive. The in formation in this book applies to any man or women who is the head of there house hold or responsible for others safety. From shooting drills, driving techniques, disaster prep, to getting ready to go to the fair with kids, home defense, fitness, the list goes on, this book will benefit everyone who reads it. It's a layman's guild to life, and is filled with knowledge at all levels. As Mr McNamara would say " it's never a "disabler and can only be an enabler". if you're looking for a shooting guild this is not it. But if you're looking to become better in all aspects of life give this book a shot, it's short enough and cheap enough to not be disappointed.

As one who has published widely on targeted attacks and protection, I was very keen to get McNamara's personal insight on the topic. I was not disappointed. McNamara takes an "all threats" perspective providing a lot of excellent material allowing for the average person to enhance their overall security. Even for those with military/law enforcement/EP backgrounds, there is much that can be learned. I can tell you that my copy has many highlighted sections and that I will be incorporating a fair amount of his training techniques into my personal training - both combat fitness and tactical - regimen. The book is a relatively quick read, although I can imagine many going back to parts time and again. The only reason for not giving it the full 5 stars was some of the editing (not to be a hypocrite as I have had my own issues on this) needed some work.

I was required to use this text for a course I was taking. It was incredibly interesting and offered great insights into methods of teaching elementary school math. I wish I was taught some of this stuff when I was in elementary school. It is heavy on the reasons instead of the rote learning. The explanations are wonderful. The authors find ways to simplify things that may mystify some people. Definitely worth it!

That's an excellent book, that can be used as a source of ideasin order to teach effectively not only underachieving pupils or pupils with SEN, but all pupils in general.It should be recommended to all those involved with primary mathematics teaching.

This book has everything a cruising sailor needs to know for doing his own canvas work, and then some. There is a good balance in the treatment of traditional and modern techniques and materials, although high-tech stuff is almost completely omitted. The illustrations are amazing and gorgeous, and the text is a pleasure to read. Along with Bowditch and "Ar Vag" (by Bernard Cadoret et al), this is one of the most prized treasures of my shipboard library. I only wish it were available in hardcover.

A great book for anyone with an interest in traditional maritime skills and wooden boats. It is written in a lively style with plenty of excellent drawings to illustrate points. It covers just about everything you need to know for small boat rigging and sailmaking. There is an excellent index at the back of the book as well as lists of resources and suppliers. Paired with The Arts of the Sailor by H.G. Smith, there is everything you need to know about rigging, canvasing and sailing traditional wooden boats.

This wonderful book isn't intended to teach you about modern, complex, computer designed sails, or how to make them. Marino wants you to be able to repair and maintain your sails yourself. He wants you to understand how to sew a flat tabling, how to stick a cringle, how to sew on a boltrope. If you are adventurous, he will tell you how to completely make a sail for your boat, one that will last many, many years, but frankly very few people will ever make their own sails. But starting with a great beginner's project, the ditty bag, he shows you that traditional sailmaking is just a collection of readily understandable tasks, and then the repetition of those tasks, done with care and patience. Highly welcome and recommended in this age of multiple laminate fabrics and computer designed sails cut out by lasers. If that's what sailing is to you, look elsewhere.

I initially bought the kindle edition of this book, but I had problems viewing all the charts and diagrams, but the information was great, so I purchased a used hard copy from Amazon.It is definitely a worth while addition for any sailor who wants to increase his or her self reliance. A lot of reviews have mentioned that the book does not reflect modern sail making methods, and that may be true, however, there is a great deal in there that is still valid, and the sections on how sails work, and sail shaping is valuable information not only for the sail maker, but for the sailor. I would recommend this for any sailing enthusiast, and certainly for a sailor who desires to be more self sufficient.

This book is amazing, and covers so much ground. My only complaint is that the kindle version is completely riddled with typos, to the extent that some sentences are unclear. As this is a pretty technical book I don’t want to miss any details! I’ll likely try to get my money back for the kindle version and order the real thing.

It is a concise version of the stuff your professor spends hours going over but it is written for people like you and me and so easy to understand. I carry this book in my purse and read it every time I want to look at my phone. Highly recommend.

This book is as simple as it gets. Contract law is one of the more complex subjects in law school. Any material that adds complexity to an already challenging subject has little value especially to 1L's and even bar candidates. Understanding the basics of the subject is crucial. That is why this book stands out from the rest. I have read the casebook, a hornbook in this jurisdiction as well as various textbooks in a foreign jurisdiction. "Contracts in a Nutshell" gives the simplest explanation of the law by far. It is a must read indeed!

Nutshells are just OK. Nothing fancy. Not even sure if they're necessary. Just Google and pay attention in class. Buy this if you want to go the extra mile or if you're your class's gunner.

This is the only supplement I used for assignments besides the rules. However for outlining it is useful, but Emanuel fares better. As with any Nutshell book, coverage is spotty at times, but the quick and easy understanding is all that is needed before delving into assignments.If looking for a fully extensive and in-depth treatment of Contracts, use E&E. Our professor is straightforward so this was the only coverage needed.

The price is right, the book is formatted correctly and includes hyperlinks to chapters and topics within chapters. The material is on par with the other commercial outline/study aids I've used or seen. For a law student in the market for a kindle-friendly study aid, this book is a safe bet.Please don't misunderstand the somewhat restrained praise I have for this book: I only just got it today and haven't identified any areas where the text is weak or short on detail. They could be out there, but my initial impression is that this is a great product in a very convenient format that definitely deserves 4 stars. I only wish I could speak more firmly on the book's content without misleading anyone.
