Sherry Gore is the the author of two cookbooks, "Simply Delicious Amish Cooking" and "Me, Myself and Pie" and co-author of the novel "Made with Love.” She is also a weekly scribe for the national edition of the Amish newspaper, The Budget, established in 1890. The National Geographic Channel featured Sherry prominently their documentary series, Amish: Out of Order. Sherry's culinary adventures have been seen on NBC Daytime, the Today Show, Mr. Food Test Kitchen and more. I received a copy from netgalley to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.Not all Amish or Mennonite people grew up as a plain person. There are people like Sherry Gore who were looking for meaning to life and stumbled upon the lifestyle. Sherry grew up in California and Florida. When her parents split she chose to live with her father in California. She grew up in an affluent area, yet she was lonely inside. She had been exposed to the love of Jesus through several family members. Because of several bad choices in her life, Sherry was sent from her father's house to her mother's in Florida. Here she lived as a homeless person for six months before eventually getting married, having two children, and moving back to California. Sherry was still looking for something but didn't know what when she and her first husband divorced. After being a single parent raising her daughter's the best she could, she met and married her second husband. Toby loved her and her girls. He gave Sherry the only son she had. This marriage did not last once Sherry found what she was looking for, life lived the way the Bible speaks. A Plain Life. However, her divorce did not mean the end of her relationship to her husband. Sherry leans on her faith as she learns about her oldest daughter's life threatening diseases. I will interject here and say that I live about a mile and a half from Sherry's house. Because I shop in the Pinecraft area I became familiar with her and her cookbooks. I followed along and prayed for her daughter Jacinda until her passing this last spring. Although it is not in the book she remained friends with her ex-husband Toby whom she lost last month. If nothing else this book shows that God can take someone who is so messed up and use them for good. Through her book she shows that God doesn't judge who you are or were as a condition of his acceptance of you. There are many who will say she is not truly Amish or Mennonite. To this I say, unless you live in the area and see and understand that there are many different types of Amish/Mennonite, just like there are many different types of Baptists, you should not judge. Besides, God won't separate us when we get to heaven so why should we worry about it here on earth? this story is her journey to become a "plain" woman, not about what the Amish are all about.

Part memoir, definitely not what I expected. Perhaps growing up around more traditional Amish, it's difficult for me to imagine some of the ones in this book....however she did live in my neck of the woods for a while. I DID enjoy the book, I'm just not sure what I was expecting. Perhaps leaving her husband to become Amish (in a roundabout way) totally confused me. She was looking for "her people" and a "way of life" as opposed, in my opinion, of looking for Jesus. I can't imagine Him telling her to end her marriage either.

Yes this book is a memoir. A tale of a woman searching for her place in the world, "her people" as she shared. But I find myself disagreeing with her choices after her conversion. Finding Christ is so monumental to one's life but it is even greater when you find Him in the midst of circumstances prior to knowing Him. Leaving her husband, Toby, is not something that Our Lord would ever condone. And if she feels it was from Our Lord, then the Bible is wrong since it clearly states we are to stay in our marriage even if our spouse never comes to know Him. I believe Ms Gore wanted acceptance and to be loved. But once again it is not through community that we find that love....no, it is through His Love for us. When she accepted Christ, she became His child. Accepted into the Beloved.Her daughter's illness was a turning point for this family. I understood her decision to move as a way to bring calmness to an otherwise chaotic time in the lives.

I first heard of Sherry Gore on Facebook, as a wonderful cook and author, and as the mom of Jacinda, whose story was offered in Sherry's posts. There was a powerful testimony of God's love, and Sherry's family's love for the Lord, through all I read. So I ordered this book before it was published and looked forward to its' arrival on my doorstep.The least I can possibly say is that Sherry's story and her honesty in telling it blew me out of the water. It is such a contrast to what I expected to read, which I have to say to myself, shame on me. You can rarely read a person's story in their face. You might get hints of the life lived, but you rarely know what the true story is.The most I will say is that THIS BOOK MUST BE READ by anyone who needs to feel an ounce of hope for themselves in their life. Sherry tells the truth, and she tells the TRUTH, and life-giving and life-changing hope is presented here.

Very informative book as it takes us through a troubled past into a journey of self forgiveness and acceptance by others. I agree with other readers that the author didn't need to divorce to become Amish. Forgiveness and acceptance is found in the One who paid it all, not an Amish community. Though I see the allure of the community and her feeling of finally belonging, I feel the author was looking for boundaries and rules, which may be what she needed to live a better life. There is nothing wrong with her self and community imposed rules, but I don't think God expects us all to wear plain clothes and grow our hair long. He is way bigger than that!!its not about rules; it's what HE did for us! I loved this book and read it in one sitting. Very good read.

I was disappointed by this book. It truly is a workbook....meaning that there are a lot of blank pages and list to be completed without much guidance on how to go about it. I wanted more information and direct knowledge of the modern job market and how to adapt to it. This is just lists of things to do on your own. I would advise looking elsewhere.

If you are someone who is, or know someone who is, suffering from Asperger's and you want to develop (better) job skills this is the book for you. The author has Asperger's, as is obvious from the structure, detail, and methodical nature of the book. Lots of forms - LOTS of forms. The book is designed to help the Asperger's person, their family, or a professional prepare for finding the Asperger's person the right job, get them through the interpersonal issues involved in interviewing, and deal with the demands of the job. The personal experiences of the author help color his presentation of the material and help illustrate for the reader that these things can be accomplished and the Asperger's person can thrive in the work environment with the right preparation and planning.

As an Aspie trying to navigate the confusing and silent world of employment, this has been a gift. I'm so glad I found it. It's clear, concise, but doesn't talk down to the reader, which is something I am *very* happy about. Highly recommend.

This book is very user friendly-has some good basic information-and some activities to practice with-it arrived in a timely manner and was in excellent condition-

This book wasn't very helpful for my husband who has AS. Not bad, but it's just not very user friendly.

The material in this particular book is very helpful. My personal tastes, while not too picky, had me putting this book down and opting not to continue reading. The book is divided into three main parts which focus on different aspects of one's working career. Having said that, I haven't completed the first chapter so there isn't much I can offer beside 'if you don't like taking part in boring mediocre activities that achieve little for a smart person - don't bother with this one'.The main gist of the text is about finding employment options that suit the individual while avoiding ones that are more demanding on problem areas.Hope this helps, just not my preferred read.

I thought this would be a workbook to help get and keep a job. Instead it is more of a self journey. Not a bad thing for someone to do, but not what is needed when the person with AS is prone to sabatoging her efforts without realizing it. It would have been nice to have had some assistance in getting the first couple jobs in life.

I payed about 3 dollars for this book used, and when I got it, it looked like it had barely been touched, and it was in great shape. No markings, etc.

This particular book is an easy read with a ton of reference notes, which I like.However, the prose tends to be a little too superfluous at times, which can get distracting. The topic itself is very under the radar and should be talked about more.

Kirkus Review described this book as "a professor’s lecture notes run amok." I would have to say, I agree. There were definitely some good tidbits of ideas and information here, but the author's overall thesis feels underdeveloped. It felt like reading 215 pages of wandering thoughts with few examples and almost no data to support those thoughts and no strong conclusions drawn in the end. Nothing really ties together. Even the last chapter titled "Conclusion" doesn't offer anything very concrete. I found myself wondering why this book was even published.

Not exactly a light read, but full of good info if you have the stomach for it and like the angle. I think it was a bit one sided, but that may have been the intent. Certainly has some general applicability as to the potential consequences of bias and slight of facts.

The Introduction to this elegantly written book mixes historical references to slavery and the variations of that horrific time in our history with subsequent alterations in the civil rights gains and losses, and leads into discussions of contemporary figures who influence the manner in which racism persists under different guises today. Jackson is both scholarly in his research and presentation while always maintaining a keen sensitivity to the reader's attention by including such well-known public figures as OJ Simpson, David Chappelle, Oprah Winfrey, President Bush, Eddie Murphy and other prominent political and entertainment figures. In that Introduction he outlines his own position by comparing Louis Farrakhan and Kayne West: "Farrakhan and West epitomize 'hard' and 'soft' versions of what I'm calling racial paranoia: distrustful conjecture about purposeful race-based maliciousness and the 'benign neglect' of racial indifference.'' It is this 'progression' from blatant racism to the Politically Correct 'enlightened' racism that makes this book so valuable a read: the mirror is well polished to reflect a bit of each of our faces.Where Jackson succeeds in maintaining the extended study of the occult physical and cautiously spoken types of racism is his ability to build a solid platform of fact to post his suggestions of persistent behavior. Never lecturing to the reader, Jackson introduces a degree of humor that makes the contemporary trend toward total acceptance of color lines as entertaining as well as pungent. His writing style encourages the reader to stay with him through his arguments and the end result is an appreciation of a fine mind in action. In commenting on the media of today he remarks ' Media scholars have said it before and in many ways: the media constitute a productive force. And in leading us to the position of at least acknowledging his postulates he is not afraid to ask the reader questions: 'Do Americans want to deal with race? Received free, but not worth the time to read it.Revised: Okay, I spent some time to read a few more pages and still think it's a waste of time. Someone's idea of piecing together "evidence" of what they want to be true. Rather like a fake news site.

Do not buy version from publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. the title is still the same, but content is the watered down version of the original. in this free country US of America with democracy and freedom of speech pride, a religious book has been modified to not "offend" a group of people with hard TRUTH. we no longer have freedom.

This book was not written by Ellen G. White. If you have read any of her books you will see a marked difference in writing style. It is obvious that the publisher has set out to deceive others on the origin of this book. It contains the exact number of chapters as the original, but on closer review you will see the chapter titles are all different. After reading the first two chapters of this book, I found numerous errors that are in direct conflict to the Bible and Ellen G. White's real book. If you want the real deal, purchase this book published by Pacific Press Publishing Association.

Powerful read. We went to Maui on our Anniversary and the weather wasn't the best, so I read to my wife the first twenty (20) chapters! It provoked a lot of conversation and we both felt blessed by the experience. It was one of the most profitable and growing vacations we have had.

This book is about a spiritual controversy between good and evil from the time Lucifer because very proud down to the time went there will be no more sin and evil in the universe. The history had been taken place but on a spiritual level. I would recommend everyone to read this book, you will be spiritually blessed!

2013 seems to be the year of non-fiction for me. I've been reading everything from science to politics, from gender studies to history. When I received a copy of Peace on the Peninsula, I really didn't have any idea what to expect. Apart from Escape from Camp 14, I have very little knowledge of the Korean Peninsula.I enjoyed Russell's style of writing when I read her fiction novel, Sacrifice, but I'll be honest and admit that I wasn't sure how it would transfer to a more serious work. If the Encyclopedia Britannica is a tuxedo clad upper class toff, I think of Russell as plaid shirt, denim clad, one hand in pocket, the other holding a tequila. In other words, she has a laid back style. Clearly, however, it is deceptive.Russell writes with clear and evident love for the Korean people and culture and genuine concern for the future of the Peninsula. It's evident that the research was conducted thoroughly and with great depth; however, this is not a numbers game for Russell. This is a people game, through and through. If her writing shows some informality, it is in its obvious underlying concern for this turbulent area and the struggles - past, present and future - that they contend with.This is not a dry work of data and statistics. Russell talks about the food, the people, her own experience of living in Korea, with such a clear connection. This book matters. It matters to her.I'm sure there are lengthier books on Korea, more replete with history and graphs, reports and statistics. I'm sure they are very good. But if you want a book with heart, pick up Peace on the Peninsula. Its simplicity and straightforward approach make the substance the key feature, and with it make the stories of the Korean people so much more meaningful.**I received a copy of the book in exchange for my fair and honest review. Peace on the Peninsula is a light, educating read on Korea, with an easy flow that keeps your interest. Real life interviews across a wide spectrum of life styles gives an intimate look at the lives, history and opinions of the Korean people. Though the main focus was on what the people's opinions were on re-unification, it was done on a very personal level. Pictures throughout the book give a down home feel of the culture. From language, food to personalities Coral Russell has a clear cut writing style that leaves you with a feel of having traveled with her. Enjoyed this read. Rgabel

Great price for this manual. I have been looking for this book for some time and found it here. It's hard to write a repair manual one-size-fits-all cause everyone is a mechanic- right? I enjoy looking through repair manuals and seeing how the Rav4 baby is put together & how to take it apart. I got this manual to help me better understand what is needed when the service mechanic makes recommendations and if I can do the job myself. BTW- if you own one of these Rav4s make sure you check the water pump for pink leaks, key stuck in the ignition switch, occasional TPMS idiot light, & PS (electric power steering) idiot light- turn off car & restart clears it.

Well, I guess I should have seen this coming - manual covers 1996 through 2012, which is way too many years for worthwhile in-depth coverage. Doesn't include sufficient specific info for me to work on my 2012 model. Nevertheless, I'm keeping it, on the possibility that something may come up that is covered. Rudimentary basics still the same, but new options/features are not covered well at all.

Decent manual. You still have to do some odd your own research if you're not familiar with the operation or the vehicle.Like other reviews, it tries to cover too many years. You can get lost trying to find certain parts.

I've bought many Haynes or Chilton's repair manuals over the years and have always found them to be a really good value. This is no exception. It is not as good as the factory service manual, but it also does not cost $600! It is practical, helpful and I would recommend it to anyone.

Wish it had more color pictures as sometimes the black and white ones are too hard to tell components apart.

These are must have manuals if you do any work on your vehicles! I buy one for every vehicle I own.

Even if you never pick up a wrench, you have to have this to understand what your mechanic is doing to your car. Makes it much more difficult for them to run up the bill.
