After reading some of the other comments about this book and misconceptions about the title, I must include the comment that this book is definitely not for children, and it is not intended for folks just learning the piano! I would put the difficulty level at advanced.I purchased this book because of the high quality print that was obvious in the Amazon review page, as well as the very accurate transcription of this famous work. Because of the large number of special articulations necessary in this music it is important that the print quality be very acute so you can easily discern the details of pedal, staccato, fingering and numerous comments. This book fits the bill perfectly. It was written with Debussy's approach in the forefront. Comments in the score are in French and English. You can see notes throughout the stanzas like 'hold back a little', A little livelier', 'flutter pedal', Livelier little by little', etc..Another positive note about this edition is that it was "based on the autograph manuscript in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, and on Debussy's recording, made in 1913 for Welte Music Rolls" as explained in the forward. To me, this is a fantastic classic creation to provide the best musical details of Debussy's expectations in transcription format.The detailed forward also provides a lot of insight into how Debussy expects to play each the pieces and there are numerous additional comments throughout the score concerning damper and nuances in speed, performance of particular notes like very short grace notes, and how to improve the melody in certain passages. As I hear, Taoism for Dummies is also pretty good!By reading Eva Wong's books, I feel like I have a teacher through her books and through the thoroughness, the depth,, the fullness, the integrity of the information and the user-friendly format that she imparts in her writing. But it is study. If you want to expand in depth and widely your relationship with being a Taoist, this is the book for you.She also has many other books related to Taoism.I also suggest, before you delve in, make sure you are ready for the book. I found it a very interesting read - a decent introduction to the ideas of the Tao. And I found the idea of a balanced life compelling.

More of a textbook read then a relaxing one. Bangs out all the bits on Taoism you'll need to know, but it's more how to do it "properly", which is the antithesis of Taoism.

I found this an interesting purchase.First, I'll warn you, the typesetting imitates what was used back then. So, the 's' & 'f' sometimes look the same; reading it takes some getting used to.Keep in mind too, that it is a facsimile, and the "receipts" are reprinted as they were in 1796. Measures are not the same as what we currently use.I'm not sure about actually using it to cook from. But it is a neat resource for seeing what was eaten in the country at the time, and how it was prepared and seasoned. I may once experiment though, and give a recipe a whirl. Out of curiosity.The essay at the beginning is worth reading too, in my opinion.

Interesting book for culinary and historical students. Shows how and what was the ingredients and availability of them, not like they could run down to the supermarket back then, you hunted it, skinned it, butchered it, cooked it following their recipe and enjoyed it, then hopefully you had one of your 8-10 children wash the dishes for you....

Just read the reviews. I am really into early 18th century recipes and cooking. Just know this really is a sort of transcript of early recipes. The English or grammar is of the time and harder to comprehend. Also terms of the time can be hard to translate into modern instructions. Very interesting and a fun read.

This young woman/cook was illiterate and had to rely on others to write down her recipes. A pleasant surprise was the account of this young woman's struggle to get her cookbook published without others 1)stealing her idea, 2) plagiarizing her book ver batum, and 3) correcting inaccuracies in measurements.

I had seen this and put it on my wish list for Christmas, my husband ended up buying it for me. He was a little disappointed I think as it was so thin, I think he expected a big cookbook. I rather enjoyed it, and it made sense to me that the "first cookbook" was thin but it's very entertaining. The original "old" language is used so some parts are hard to read, but it's fun to have.

As to what other reviewers are complaining about, yes it takes some cooking and preparing time but no where in the description or the cover does it state that its fast and easy. There are several crock pot recipe books that state on the cover five items or less and easy crock pot recipes etc. So if that is something that you are looking for then I would advised against using this book. But if you are wanting to use your CrockPot to make naturally hard dishes this book is the way to go. It is broken up by breakfast, appetizers, stews, soups, chilis, chicken, beef, seafood, and desserts. I just received mine yesterday and have already planned the six meals that I will be making this week!

I was recommended this book from a friend of mine. Personally, I really enjoy reading this book.All of the Crockpot recipes, tips and guides that I need to know about how to prepare healthy food for my family and stay healthy are already included and well illustrated inside. Adele Baker is a master chef on this topic.What I love the most from the book is all recipes. They are very delicious, quick to prepare and well guided.

Same complaint as others here. Although this cookbook has delicious recipes and great pictures and is huge, these are not “ fix and forget” recipes to prepare at the start of the day then eat later. They basically have you do all the work of making dinner , just in the morning. Defeats the purpose of crockpotting. Some recipes call for additional preparations halfway through, or an hour before eating. Same work as any other cookbook.

The cook book which came with my Crock Pot Express was nice but I wanted to do more with it. You will find this book to be an excellent companion to your Crock Pot Express. The recipes are easy and they are written with this appliance in mind. The recipes are varied and cover everything from soup to entrees to desserts to snacks. I have made 5 recipes from this cookbook so far and they have all been delicious so far! I definitely recommend this cookbook for anyone who has a slow crockpot. I recommend this recipe book whether you are using a crock pot for the first time or have been using one your whole life, like I have.

I loved that this cook book had lots of options for both crock pot and Insta-Pot. I didn't know much about the Insta-Pot before but now I am going to invest in one so I can try out the other recipes as well. All recipes had good instruction and was very easy to follow with awesome results.

I absolutely love these recipes for my Crockpot. Great crockpot recipes! Crockpot recipes is the best book I have read this year and this is because the information is useful to me as a cook. I am recommended this book and thank you author.

Love this book - great beginner's book for the pi and python. My son, who knew no programming whatsoever before he got the pi, has used this book to set up and boot his Raspberry pi, learn python, and get good ideas of programs to write on the pi. This book covers the python programming language from basics to complex commands, and specifically how to use python on the raspberry pi.This little text is short and concise, a great introduction for an interested person. It is comprehensive enough to take a novice to expert status, but not so dense that it overwhelms the novice. When my son learns a new command from this book, he tries it. If he still needs to know more because the text has sparked additional questions, he researches that command more on Python Wiki. Otherwise, this book alone is thorough enough to get started and learn programming.Chapter titles are: Introduction; Getting Started; Python Basics; Strings, Lists, and Dictionaries; Modules, Classes, and Methods; Files and the Internet; Graphical User Interfaces; Games Programming; Interfacing Hardware; Prototyping Project (Clock); The RaspiRobot; What Next.

this book is great if you have a bit of Linux or other command-line experience but haven't really done much programming. it's inexpensive and has just enough information and examples to show you the directions that you can go with a Pi.i would say it's less useful for folks who have some experience with programming and hardware hacking and would like a lead on more in-depth knowledge. i have experience with a couple languages but don't know Python, so i would have preferred a more structured description of Python and its differences (numerous) from C-like languages.one thing that would help the programming chapters is more diagrams to visualize code structures - if, else, while, etc., can be communicated very quickly with some boxes and arrows.i don't think the chapter on GUI programming is very useful. it's a narrow need on this platform, even for kids learning to program on a TV. the ink would have been better spent on more web scraping and API access instruction (e.g. build a newsfeed TTS reader) or more hardware interfacing info. i would have liked to see more overview and examples of interfacing I2C/SPI hardware, since there are so many cool boards out there.

This is not a project cookbook on how to run devices with your Pi. If that is what you want there are better project books to be had and the author has written quite a few very good free project tutorials online. Consider this a good companion to a project book or online tutorial.This book is an introduction to the skills you will need to get beyond simply pasting code and copying wiring diagrams. Think of it as a very shallow first pass just to see the big picture.I would recommend this book if you are new to programming, unfamiliar with Python, or unfamiliar with Linux command line / installing software. I exhausted the content quickly but this gave me a good base to build on and now I'm confident using online tutorials and the official Python documentation going forward.

This is an awesome product to get kids interested in the technical aspects of computing. I got this for my pre-teen son and helped him rig it up to dock on the motorola Atrix docking station. Now he has a sweet "laptop" that he likes to spend time on, and he is programming in python. All his buddies think it is the coolest thing ever, and they want their own now. We're looking at other hardware/software projects to keep things interesting and keep him engaged. Kids are spending all their time on electronics anyway. Why not channel the time and energy into productive endeavours? This is a cheap way to get kids involved and interested in computer engineering and programming.

By no stretch is this anything more than an introduction to the Raspberry Pi and Python (ver 3) programming. The examples coding and hardware interaction is basic...but thorough. This book will get you interested in going farther with the Raspberry Pi. Python is a great match for this learning platform. Thankfully, the book does not overload you with geek-speak as it introduces the features and functions of programming for the Pi. You get good value and inspiration to move on to bigger and better tutorials from this book. That's exactly what a novice enthusiast needs IMHO.

This manual is a must have for anyone who wants to start tinkering with their Raspberry Pi. It covers everything you need to get started as far as Linux is concerned. That's what you get here, a thorough book that will get your toes wet. Obviously there's a ton more stuff you can do with your Raspberry Pi,but that wouldn't fall under the "Getting Started" category.I've found that Simon Monk is a technical writer that is easy to understand and immerses you in the capability of the Raspberry Pi as well as the Arduino. When it comes to these matters I'd say he's the best writer to start with, that I know of.

Small, so easy to carry around and a most very interesting read. Covers RasPi set up as well (so you get two for one) and then dives very nicely into Python without leaving anything to guesswork. For such a small and well written book I was really amazed a how much it covered (from "Hello World" to games and robotics) without leaving big holes in the material. I am pleased with this book and would recommend it to Python beginners and mid level programmers.

A great book for beginners. I really really wish resources like this book and the Raspberry PI were available to me when I was in my teens. A highschool computer lab class could offer a course using this book as the lesson plan and the Raspberry PI as the lab. A student, for little more than $100 fee, could have an invaluable programming experience that would prepare them for a computer science undergrad... Great work Dr. Monk!

This was a gift for my 9 year old Granddaughter, along with a sewing machine. She has practiced and chosen a few projects, now we need to go to the fabric store. I like how the book is authored by another child, I think that gives more confidence to the child reading the book and helps them identify. This book has some really nice projects and the directions are easy for a beginner to understand. I think this is probably the best book I have found for a beginning sewer. I have been sewing for 40 years, and I even found a few things that helped me. Very nice book and very well done!

I ordered 3 sewing books, and this and another were great. My First Sewing Machine Book was a waste of money. This one has great pictures and is written on the kids' level, which is nice. I think it's cool they write it from a child's perspective. My one complaint, as most books are, is that it starts off so basic and then the projects get harder and harder. That sounds like a good thing (and it is in a way), but the last project is quite complicated. There's no way you'll be ready for it just by progressing through the book. I would rather have it have just a bunch of beginner projects, as kids will be beginners during many, many sewing projects. However, I found the tips useful, even for myself (I, myself and not great with a sewing maching, but I know some stuff).

Though I like a lot of things about this book, I have some complaints about specific project instructions. I'll give you the low-down on all the things I like and the details I wish would have been addressed.Pros:1. Lots of good information. The book doesn't just jump into the project instructions right away, it starts out with information about fabrics, notions, supplies, techniques, and sewing machines. My daughter found this to be very exciting; after reading, she felt like an expert already.2. Projects arranged in order of difficulty. That way, you aren't hunting through the whole book for something you can actually do. You know that the first projects you can handle right away, and the later projects will be doable once you have some experience.3. Pictures/sketches of each step and tips to avoid common problems. This makes the instructions easy to understand and helps kids to avoid frustration.4. Wide variety of projects. Not only are all the projects ones that tweens/early teens might actually use, but there's something that would appeal to pretty much anyone. Additionally, many of the projects have notes about variations you could try.5. This might be nit-picky, but I like the variety of people pictured. Though I bought this book for my daughter, I have sons who also enjoy sewing occasionally. Unlike most books, this one actually has a couple boys pictured working on pillows or other non-girly projects. There are also kids of varying ethnicities, which some books don't bother with. The kids featured, however, look to be almost exclusively in the 10-13ish age range, if that matters to you.The cons:My main objections here have to do with particular project instructions. For example:1. The headband project can be quite difficult to get the elastic through. In a later project, the book notes that some elastic is wider than specified and thus you should measure your elastic and adjust sewing accordingly to be sure your elastic can easily slide through the sleeve you sew--but it doesn't mention that in the "easy" headband project, making it a bit frustrating if you either a) can barely get your elastic in or b) have to turn your fabric sleeve back inside-out, rip out all your stitches, and re-sew the whole business with a narrower seam allowance because your elastic won't go through at all.2. The skirt project is misleading/unclear. The girls pictured have skirts that are at least knee-length (even the two-tiered skirt). The measurements given, however, result in a shorter skirt. (The top tier is 7" - 1.5" [folded down to create a channel for elastic]= 5.5" The second tier is supposed to be the waist-to-knee measure minus 7.5 inches--which, after a seam allowance to connect the tiers, results in a skirt that's about 2.5" above the knee. If your kid has short legs to begin with, 2.5" above the knee can be pretty short--and is definitely shorter than either skirt pictured.) Additionally, there is nowhere in the instructions that tells you how much elastic to use in relation to the measurements taken, and the instructions have a step where you ruffle the bottom to match the width of the top, but they never mention earlier in the instructions that you could/should have the bottom tier wider than the top to accommodate said ruffling.We've owned this book for a year and my daughter has done six of the projects (some of them multiple times). While not every project appeals to her, the projects she's done so far have provided hours of fun. She got the book at age 8 and was easily able to do the first three projects on her own with only occasional consultation regarding cutting. The projects that require finicky ironing (like folding and ironing .25") still have her looking to me for help, but I'd guess in another year (at 10) she could be almost entirely independent.

This is a pretty good book for helping your child get more familiar with sewing. Includes a lot of basic information that we found helpful, both for learning, and review. The only thing that we found a little disappointing is that most of the projects my daughter wanted to make from this book need several more dollars' worth of supplies than what I have on hand. I realize this is probably often the case, but for children, I was hoping not to have to spend toooo much for their projects while still learning. Still, there are a lot of nice sewing projects in here and overall, I still think it's a good sewing guide for beginners, and those who want to gain more knowledge and experience.

I purchased this for my granddaughter on a friend's recommendation - and I actually bought one for myself too! The instructions are clear - the pictures help a lot - and there are things that I never knew - hints and tricks for sewing - that are fantastic. My husband is also enjoying it - learning to sew!Great job Sophie!
