Chapter 1 Outlander: The Origins “Will we ever get to see Outlander adapted for the screen?” Since the novel first came out in 1991, author Diana Gabaldon has fielded that question from enthusiastic readers almost daily. The story of Claire Beauchamp Randall and Jamie Fraser seemed an obvious choice for a cinematic retelling, but the project was not without its logistical challenges. With the novel weighing in at more than 600 pages, the core dilemma always centered on how much of the action-packed adventure would have to be cut just to fit the traditional cinematic window of two hours. With too much to lose to the proverbial cutting room floor, the world of Outlander remained strictly in the realm of print. It wasn’t until around 2010 that a possible solution started to present itself: a television series. Maril Davis, a development executive/co–executive producer for Ronald D. Moore’s Tall Ship Productions, was looking for potential properties to produce and had the books recommended to her by friend and softball teammate Matthew B. Roberts. “[Roberts] had read the books as a reader during one of his first jobs,” Davis explains. “He passed on the books because they wanted to do movies but told me they would be great for TV. I took him up on that and read them all the way through. “I loved them,” Davis says with unabashed adoration. “This to me was my passion project.” But the television landscape at the time wasn’t yet the haven for high-concept sci-fi series it seems to be today. “Game of Thrones was not on at that point. Ron had tried to do Dragonriders of Pern. It just didn’t feel like the timing was right.” Cut to a personal dinner Davis was having with Moore and his wife, Terry Dresbach, where the three started talking about the projects they had always longed to do. “I said, ‘My passion project is this book series called Outlander, and I would love to do them,’ ” Davis recalls. “I didn’t realize Terry was also a fan. So we talked, and Ron seemed intrigued.” “Terry and I talked about it after the dinner a few times,” Moore remembers. “But it wasn’t really until I sat down and started reading the book that I saw the potential.” From that first read, he says, he was struck by how Gabaldon’s writing kept surprising him. “By the time I got to the end of the book, there had been some significant twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. In my head, I could definitely see a season of television and how it works through a season. Plus the fact that, at that point, there were multiple books in the series just meant that it had a life beyond season one. I remember thinking, If the other books are anywhere near as good as this, then essentially I’m in.” Davis was thrilled to get the go-ahead to pursue. “I got in touch with the rights holder, Jim Kohlberg. We had a great meeting, but it was very obvious that they wanted to do this book series as films.” Davis left the meeting convinced a film would not do justice to the books. “Reluctantly, we walked away,” she says. “But I was like a dog with a bone,” she continues, laughing. “I just kept checking back every once in a while. One of the times, they were open to doing TV. So Ron and I went back in there and had a fabulous meeting, and it kind of started there.” Davis says they pitched Chris Parnell, executive vice president of Sony Pictures Television, to be their studio partner, but he was unfamiliar with the books. “To his credit, Chris went out and bought the book on tape and listened in his car, which was so cute,” she says. “He would call me every once in a while and be like, ‘I am sitting in my car blushing,’ which was hilarious.” By the book’s end, Davis says, Parnell was on board and ready to champion the show to the networks. The next step for Moore and Davis was to officially visit Gabaldon at her Scottsdale, Arizona, residence. “Just from the fan perspective, not even a producer perspective, I felt it was so important to get her approval,” Davis says. “I wanted her approval and just to make sure she was comfortable that this book was in the right hands. I wanted to assure her that we weren’t trying to exploit it and we understood what it was. There was Ron’s track record, certainly as an amazing writer but also as someone who obviously writes very strong female characters, from Battlestar Galactica to Carnivàle. I also wanted her to know that I was going to protect the series as well, it being so close to my heart and near and dear to me.” For Gabaldon, having the books in serious development after so many years of thinking it couldn’t work was beyond surprising. “People are always asking, ‘Why is it that you held out for Ron?’ The truth is that I didn’t,” she says with her trademark candor. “We were very careful who we did options with, because there was always a possibility that they would succeed. In which case, you will never get the rights back. We had done this only four times and, luckily, none of the first three times took.” But it seemed an Outlander series was finally about to happen in earnest. Gabaldon recalls that she was very curious about the pair who made it happen. “They came and spent two days with me at my house, talking over story lines, characters, and backstory. Asking had I written anything that wasn’t in the books that they should be aware of? Where did I see the story going? Ron was sharing with me his vision of storytelling and what he thought of the characters. I could tell that we were pretty much on the same wavelength with regard to the importance of a central character in a story, which predisposed me to him.” Gabaldon was also impressed during those initial meetings by the clarity of the vision Moore had for the series. “He began to share his own philosophy and his take on how things would work,” she goes on. “He said he would like to start [the series] with a little visual prologue that takes place before Outlander [the book] actually starts. He’d show Claire during World War II in a military hospital out in France, saving people’s lives. She is a central character, and we need to fix her in people’s consciousness immediately as the main person of interest. And I am sort of nodding as he is saying all this and going, ‘Yes. You are right.’ I could tell he did know what he was doing and I approved the direction he saw for doing it. “I gave them my blessing to start the script the way Ron wanted to,” Gabaldon explains. A few days later, Moore sent over his pilot script. “I told him when I read it, this is the only thing that I have ever read based on my own work that didn’t make me turn white or burst into flames, so I was favorably impressed.” Moore says gaining Diana’s favor gave them reassurance that they were taking the right direction with her work, which he felt was important given how devoted the series’ readers have proven themselves to be over the years. “We really wanted to engage and keep the fan base that was already there from the books and transfer them over to the TV show,” Moore explains. “Diana had her finger on that pulse for many, many years. She knew them pretty intimately, communicated with them, and had a good sense of what was important to them. She was a good indicator of where we were. She kept us in the lane.” For Davis, Gabaldon’s approval gave the series the ability to credibly move forward. “I don’t know if we could have gone ahead, in my mind, without her approval in some way. We didn’t technically need it, because obviously at that point we had secured the rights. But I think for me, having her approval and having her on board with what we were doing was incredibly important, and I don’t think we could have done it without her.” Finding the right home for the show was the next step, which required the ever-growing Team Outlander—at this point comprised of Davis, Moore, and Parnell as well as Sony executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg—to once again pitch the idea. But Davis says Starz impressed from the very first meeting. “We would walk into every pitch meeting—me, Ron, the Sony executives—with this huge stack of [Diana’s] books to show them how much material there was. Starz was the only place we went that they had actually read the first book and were the only ones that also said to us, ‘We want you to stick to the books.’ ” Following that meeting, Outlander the television series was officially greenlit in November 2012 for development and a pilot. Almost two years later, after hiring a writers’ room in Pasadena, California, setting up a transatlantic production in Scotland, and casting the characters readers had been picturing in their minds’ eyes for over two decades, Moore was able to share with Gabaldon the first footage of her world brought to life. Gabaldon remembers that it was behind the scenes at an Outlander fan event in January 2014 when Moore asked if she’d like to take a look. “I said, ‘Yeah, I would.’ He had it on his laptop and we were all sitting back there on this ratty old sofa. He opened his laptop and that is where I saw the first few scenes of Outlander. I was totally fascinated. It was beautiful and it was terrific.” Just shy of twenty-three years from when Gabaldon first put to paper her story about a woman traveling back in time through standing stones, that story was taking on a new form, as actors breathed life into the beloved characters and the vast beauty of Scotland served as its backdrop. Outlander, the series, takes the story of Claire Beauchamp Randall and James MacKenzie Fraser into a whole new realm, and in this book, that journey is our story. . . .

Outlander! That is all you need to know. Look. I had no idea what I was getting into a year and a half ago when I stumbled across the series on my 'On Demand'. Watching the first episode...I was hooked. I watch the shows, I have now read the books, I listen to the podcasts and I follow the FB pages. I'm totally obsessed. And I know a LOT, but this book still told me things I didn't know and was filled with great color photos and quotes from the actors and others involved in the production of the show. If you're a fan, definitely treat yourself. If you're looking for a gift for someone who loves 'Outlander', this is it!I use reviews when I purchase from Amazon so I understand the importance of an honest and insightful review. If this has helped you in any way, please help me and click "YES" below. Thanks!

I was waiting to see if this book would actually be a companion book or a re-hash of everything social media savvy Outlander fans have seen and heard for a few years now. I was so glad to find out that this is a gloriously luscious book; well written with new tidbits and organized in a great way.New insights from cast and a lovely forward from Herself adds to the fun of finding out something new-which is what most fans crave. And of course, the photos! This book is deserving of a spot next to my Outlander Companions on my bookshelf. Well done to all involved.

I pre-ordered this book and was delighted to come home from a busy day at work to find it waiting for me a few days ago. It is even better than I imagined, and I just ordered one for my sister-in-law who got me started with the Outlander series. I'm now on book 5. The pictures are beautiful, the book is large and filled with more information than expected. This will be a wonderful way to survive the long awaited return of Season 3. I always enjoyed the segments that Ron Moore filmed at the end of each episode.... this is a MEGA version that draws you into the entire filming, cast and process. THANK YOU !

This book is a sumptuous feast for Outlander fans. Tara Bennett has lovingly created a tribute to the filmmakers, actors, and entire crew of this incredible series. Each spread has photos from the filming and sets, fascinating stories, personal comments from producers, writers, directors, cast and crew, and insights into bringing Diana Gabaldon's book series to the screen. And there is so much more—Diana Gabaldon's IntroductionOrigins, In the Writers Room, The Journey from Book to ScreenA Chapter for every episode in Season One and Two!Production Design and Set DecorationTheme Song and TitlesSpotlights on 17 major actors and their charactersCostumes Season One and Two, Stunts and ArmoryAs soon as the book arrived i read the first two sections before even looking through the rest of the book, it just draws you in. As a musician, i found Bear McCreary's description of the music scoring especially fascinating, the many subtleties of which i missed and appreciate so much more now. He shares how the theme song was chosen, how the lyrics were eventually added and sung, adapted for Claire as "the lass that is gone."The photographs throughout are well chosen to avoid explicit scenes, so you can display this gorgeous hardbound book without concern for who will see it.The Making of Outlander is a rich tribute to this awesome film series with over 200 pages of great storytelling and images of the captivating story of Jaime and Claire, the worlds they share and try to change for the better. I will be reading it and rereading it!

It's a fun read, but the Kindle version is like reading a rough draft. Photos are small and don't go with the text. The inset quotes also don't go with the text. It just seems that everything is out of order. Buy the print version if you're looking for a real Outlander experience.

So excited to get the books....everything within the set including the paper is perfection. Love the commentaries from the cast, directors and writers. It gives us, the viewers allot of insight, details and thoughts behind the actual filming. Great Christmas present for anyone who loves Outlander!

I'm trying to give this book five stars, b u t it's only showing one!! I hope that will be corrected.I found this book to be filled with wonderful memories of first reading Diana's books. This author (Tara Bennett), brought me behind the scene where I've always longed to be! Whether I am watching a great comedy, or seeing the perfect ice skating performance, I've always thought " How did all this come to be?"Tara Bennett took me there. With Diana Gaboldon's writhing, she brings the story to you. You feel a part of her reading it to you. With Tara's writhing, she takes you behind the scene to where it all comes together. And she explains what the writers of the show where thinking when they changed ideas from the book. Knowing how and why they decided to do this really helped me with watching those changes.I would encourage any person who enjoyed reading (and rereading!!!) the Outlander series, place this book at the top of your list read! Especially if you had any doubts while watching the series. You will want to watch it all over from the very beginning!!Happy Reading!!

The Bestselling and Pulitzer Prize winning author, Jon Meacham delivers a remarkable biography of Thomas Jefferson, an extraordinary man in his era. A President, politician, and philosopher engaged in the wars of his time. He was known as a passionate man, one who shared ideas, and one who believed in learning from mistakes. A man who not only loved America, but also family, friends, and much more. He struggled to succeed for a better government, and a better economy. Jefferson was well-known, and the most successful political leader in all of American history. He was the father of individual liberty, and of the settling of the West. He was the genius of a new nation, who believed in progress for humanity, while seeking the undiscovered. Thomas Jefferson, popular for political movement in legislative halls of Philadelphia, and New York. A President who progressed from the writing of the Declaration Of Independence to elegant social dinners in Paris, and the President's house. A man who enjoyed discovering the unknown, his plantation in Virginia, and the creation of the University of Virginia. Jon Meacham describes through extensive research, the personal Jefferson, and the political leader Jefferson as a colorful portrait is painted of a famous man, who struggled for greatness in an uneasy world. One man who followed his dreams, and climbed the golden ladder to achievement, and perfection. This insightful story is a triumph that's told in elegant writing with intelligent facts and findings. Interesting, informative, concise, and highly recommended to history lovers!

THOMAS JEFFERSON: THE ART OF POWER, by Jon Meacham is a great read, I enjoyed it Prologue through Epilogue. It is lively, interesting and insightful. I have read quite a lot on the Revolutionary Era, including several other biographies of Thomas Jefferson, and even so I learned a lot about Jefferson in the reading of this book. However, there are elements of the book with which I take exception.Mr. Meacham states in the Author's Notes that this biography is, in part, a reaction to recent biographies of both George Washington, John Adams and Alexander Hamilton which have revised opinions of these three men, especially Hamilton. He writes, "Then came nearly two decades of highly acclaimed biographies of John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington that understandably emphasized the virtues of their protagonist, often at Jefferson's expense"(pg. 507). He cites specifically Joseph J. Ellis's Passionate Sage: The Character and Legacy of John Adams, but I imagine he would also include in that list John Adams, by David McCullough and Ron Chernow's two most recents works: Washington: A Life and Alexander Hamilton (all of them highly readable, excellent biographies).Mr. Meacham does a good job--better than most--helping his reader understand that there was during the post-revolutionary period a real fear in certain quarters that the United States could revert to a monarchy. Not so well done in this book is separating over-heated political rhetoric from what Jefferson actually believed. The fact is, a man as unquestionably intelligent and savvy as Jefferson would have known the difference between hyperbolic political rhetoric-even his own-and reality. It is clear that by the end of Washington's second term Jefferson and the Republicans (largely whipped up by Jefferson and Madison) were frustrated and chaffing at the bit. Even then, I cannot accept, as Mr. Meacham seems to imply, that Jefferson put much store in all the monarchical conspiracy theories that had political currency at that time.On balance most historians seem to believe that it was Jefferson's actions and political maneuverings during the Washington administration which help ignite and escalate the overwrought, highly negative atmosphere that convulsed politics during Washington's second administration and beyond. However, Mr. Meacham does not see it that way. Rather he explains Jefferson's third-party maneuverings and obfuscations as a natural reaction to the situation in which he found himself and what, at his time, would have been expected of a man in his station. I did not completely accept this. Jefferson's relationship with Philip Ferneau and the National Gazette is not fully explored in this book and leaves the reader with the impression that Jefferson was only tangentially involved with the newspaper that regularly ravaged Washington and his administration. But at least Mr. Meacham does allude to the conection. What is a more egregious omission is any exploration of how duplicitous Jefferson (and especially Madison) became in dealing with Washington in his second administration.Although Washington knew and understood that he had political differences with the two men, he still considered them trustworthy confidants. He had no idea the degree to which, through indirect means, the two men were so actively working against him. Jefferson and Madison continued to allow themselves to be taken into Washington's confidence never once indicating that they were anything other that loyal friends. This I think is an essential part of Jefferson's character and should not be excluded from a biography of his life especially one whose stated thesis is to show how artful, skillful and subtle was his accumulation and use of power. The final difference I have with THOMAS JEFFERSON: THE ART OF POWER is the thesis that Mr. Meacham proposes at the beginning of the book and attempts to support throughout: that Jefferson's vision for American, which contrasted with Washington's and Hamilton's allowed him and his proteges to control the Presidency for 40 years with only one four year interruption by John Quincy Adams. It is, of course true enough that Madison, Monroe, Jackson and Van Buren were disciples of Jefferson. But Mr. Meacham's argument that Jefferson accomplished this feat by opposing and triumphing over the policies of Washington and Hamilton is not accurate. In fact, Mr. Meacham seems to believe that Jefferson was able to win the Presidency because, "He understood the country was open to--even eager for-- a government that seemed less intrusive and overbearing than the one Washington and Adams had created" (pg. 352).While it is true that Jefferson and his proteges could not wait for Washington to exit the stage, the country itself never gave that indication, not in the slightest degree. Had he run, Washington would have easily won a third term. Adams, of course, was defeated for reelection, but that was not a rejection by the voters of Washington. Adam's defeat was due more to yawning cleavage in the Federalist Party and the electoral advantage created by the 3/5 clause of the constitution giving a significant Electoral College advantage to states with large slave populations, than to any rejection of Washington, his policies or his style of governing. Moreover, what Jefferson did to consolidate his hold on power was adopted in deed, if not in word, the Hamiltonian idea that the country needed a stronger central government governed by a stronger executive. For all of Jefferson's concern over what he characterized as monarchical power grabs by Washington, Jefferson did more to increase the power of the President with the Louisiana Purchase than Washington did in his entire presidency. And that by no means was the only time Jefferson broadened and consolidated powers of the presidency. Where Washington had used restraint, Jefferson often resorted to expediency. Many such incidences are skillfully explored in this book. The inconstancy they pose to Jefferson's rhetoric are attributed by Mr. Meacham to "pragmatism." In reality, they were actions which if Washington or any other Federalist had engaged in would been haled as auguries of monarchism by the Jeffersonians. The part of this book I found most insightful and interesting is Mr. Meacham's discussion of the debt assumption crisis. I had always believed that Hamilton got the better of Jefferson in this bargain which both resolved the crisis created the debt incurred by the state during the Revolutionary War and sited the nation's capitol on the Potomac. However, Mr. Meacham does an excellent job of explaining all of the many and complicated subtleties, which seemed to be overlooked by other historians, which came in to play here. He argues persuasively how, even though Hamilton got what he wanted in the bargain, Jefferson also negotiated some meaningful concessions. The bargain struck between these two antagonists was actually much more balanced than I originally believed.Having pointed to a few differences with Mr. Meacham and his view of Thomas Jefferson, I very thoroughly enjoyed this book and will most likely read it again. It is beautifully written, meticulously researched and goes a long way to re-balance the modern image of Jefferson, reminding its readers the debt that is owed to the drafter of the Declaration of Independence and the Sage of Monticello.

Great Britain’s hold on its small colonies hugging the Atlantic shoreline was constantly being tested in the mid to late 18th century. A number of remarkable men, all at or near the height of their powers, led the separation from the British rule. Only two or three men made the difference in this intense struggle. Thomas Jefferson was certainly one of these. This superb biography of Jefferson has so many assets: it is relatively brief; it covers most of the important aspects of this complex man’s remarkable life; it leaves us with undiluted admiration for an extraordinary man; and it creates a tension, so much a part of America’s post-Revolution history, between the two major parties that struggled for early supremacy in the opening days of the American republic’s history. Many other historians have surveyed the same ground but few have captured the essence of Jefferson’s personality -- deeply thoughtful, hopeful for the future of the society that was being created, eminently fair but stubborn and occasionally searing, a marvelous friend but a relentless enemy. John Meacham makes a great contribution to understanding the nation’s early story in this history. The scope of the book is vast, covering all of Jefferson’s life, a life lived during the period of time when important events occurred back to back, crowding together from the Revolution to the early days of Washington’s presidency, the struggle between the Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, and the Republicans, led by Jefferson, the early expansion of the country westward across the North American continent, the arguments with Great Britain. Jefferson was on center stage for most of this. His instincts were clear and sure: liberty, personal freedom, fairness, stubborness and unyielding when under attack. In such a crowded life, the historian is faced with making choices. I would have wanted a fuller account of the election of 1800, which Jefferson barely won, defeating Aaron Burr by only two electoral votes; I would have liked to have had a more extensive discussion of his relationship with Sally Hemmings, whom he treated reasonably well but never was treated as an equal – a strange footnote to Jefferson’s life which, at least on the surface, was all about freedom and equal rights and the equality of mankind. The discussion of the country’s growing prosperity that enabled it to deal with British attempts to limit the success of the country could have been more extensive. In such a complex life, any historian, including Mr. Meacham, has to make choices. In my opinion, this is a very successful work of history in painting a full portrait of a complex and extraordinary man.

This is one of the best textbooks that I have seen. First it seems exceptionally complete and does not shy away from being challenging at times. The explanations are clear and precise. It is well illustrated. It's coverage of genetics from basic concepts to advanced concepts is ideal for serious classes in Biology majors who expect to go further. The book also introduces the student to a resource that immensely useful in research: The National Center for Biotechnology Information database (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). The book has inspired me to research the subject further.

You're probably not buying this book for pleasure, it's most likely because you need it for a class. The reason why I'm even bothering to write this is because I was in the same spot, but my professor wanted the latest(8th) edition. I saved money, bought this one, and it worked just fine. No problems with figures missing or huge changes in information. Save money, buy this edition if you don't need WileyPlus.

I had wanted a book maybe titled "Genetics for Dummies", but having found none, I settled for this one. Genetics - granted - is aVERY difficult subject, and I was hoping this might come just a little close to my hopes. No dice. This a a large, heavy TEXTBOOK on the subject, and it's taking me more than a WEEK (not reading everyday) to just get past the 2 or 3 page introduction.. Very complex subject (of course), and I would presume perfect for those who have a *little* background in basic biology. [Musician don't get biology courses in their degree programs.] Small font, compact chapters and sub-chapters. I intend to stay with it a little longer, with hope that it will begin to 'clarify' soon. A fairly large book: 11" x 9" x 1-1/2" thick. Well illustrated.

I am majoring in Psychology with little background on Genetics.I purchased this book to prepare for the GRE Subject test (Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology) and i couldn't be more pleased with my order! The explanations are easy to follow but the text covers ALL major aspects of Genetics (Classic & Modern). The illustrations are top notch.I preferred this edition over the newer one because of the price tag. It's 50% cheaper and the ONLY difference is in the cosmetics of the pictures.

Lends itself to be read, does not over-complicate concepts. Some end-of-chapter questions are written vaguely. I only read up till chapter 19, but I enjoyed what I read.

Easy class is easy.

The kindle version of this book is very easy to navigate, looks great and is much easier to carry around then the physical book. The book also opens up quickly and had little load time when navigating the book. My only complaint is there was a couple times that a portion of the book was absent or "cut out". This was not a weird loading error because the page would always show up with the portion missing. Also, I don't think you can open this book through the kindle app on another computer.

Bought it for my Genetics course... Really well written. I will probably keep this book for the rest of my life.

#686,160 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I had heard very good things about this cookbook and I was not disappointed. For one thing, it is a huge cookbook with the pages taken from the Donna Hay magazine. The photos are so beautiful that I kept this cookbook on my coffee table just to peruse it for awhile. But in addition to the beautiful photographs, the recipes are clearly written and contain the fresh ingredients one would expect from Donna Hay. I had four or five marked to try on my first read through the book.I will warn you that the original of this cookbook would be in metric since Donna Hay is an Australian magazine. My copy had the American version of recipes, which is good because I am terrible at math and making conversions. This is a cookbook I've already come back to often.

The book itself is absolutely beautiful. The pictures are amazing, the recipes sound delicious, and my first time through it I had multiple pages marked to try out. However, the one major downfall for me was that upon the first few times of opening this book, the binding fell apart. At first it was just the front cover and the first page that separated from each other, not too big a deal. I thought some glue would easily fix it. Then when I opened it again, the whole binding came undone from ALL the pages. It just fell off. Normal white glue didn't work at all for fixing it, and even super glue didn't make it stay. So I returned it. Then when I got the second book, it did the exact same thing. Super glue DID make it stay this time, but I'm not sure how long that will last as it's clearly not a permanent fix, and now the pages are starting to slightly separate from their binding as well.Long story short, be prepared to have to either glue the mess out of it to make the binding stay, or maybe just take it to a bookbinder. The glue on the original binding is very poor, and it was really disappointing to have it happen to two different books. I don't believe this is any fault of Amazon's, it's just the manufacturing of the book, it wasn't made well. If the book itself wasn't beautiful and full of great recipes, I would've just returned the second one as well. The recipes themselves make keeping the book worth it to me.

As with all of Donna’s books, this was absolutely beautiful. Lots of gorgeous photos and delicious recipes! The only complaint that I might have is that starting with page 80, it started up with page 26 again.. and continued through to page 36. So I have duplicate pages in the book 26-36. Right after that, it continues to page 100... so technically, I’m missing pages 91-99.I sure would love to know what recipes and photos are on those pages that I’m missing!

I have all of Donna Hay's cookbooks and this may be one of the only ones I have given less than a five star rating. I prefer some of her smaller editions since this is really more of a coffee table book than a usable cookbook. The binding is done poorly, just cglued on and after a few reads cracked and unfolded along the back which was disappointing. Fortunately I am a scrapbooker so I have plenty of sturdy glue and was able to fix it nicely. The content is from her magazines (she is the Martha Stewart of Australia) which are gorgeous folios that i have seen before in Barnes & Noble. They are expensive magazines to purchase in the US but the production values are extraordinary. I love her aesthetic and I love her recipes.I like cookbooks that are done seasonally. I usually will focs on the current season and get all I can from it before moving on. Since this is now Spring I have really enjoyed the recipes for the season. They epitomize a lovely spring. I did thumb through to winter which kind of different in Australia and the food is not much like food that we have in the US in the winter. That's ok though because I live in Florida and have two seasons here - hot and not-as-hot. My nothern friends might not find that chapter as useful since it recommends cookouts on the beach! It is a beautiful cookbook with gorgeous photos of every recipe. It sets the bar very high (as do all her other cookbooks) and makes you hungry and want to get to cooking immediately. All the recipes are simple and delicious, you will usually not find anything too difficult in her books. I don;t do desserts but they look pretty easy to concoct as well. The cookbook has two sections per each season, a savory and then a sweet. The sweet section is much smaller but stays true to the seasons.I got a great deal on this cookbook but truthfully would have spent more for it and been quite satisfied.

This book is so lovely to look at. I love that it's organized by season, makes it easy to grocery shop or pick from your garden. The recipes are divinely simple, yet most of the recipes feature complex and fresh flavors. I've already tried the Paperbag Red Snapper with Preserved Lemon and the Chocolate Clafoutis--- both were delicious and so easy.

Great book with wonderful content and a beautiful layout. The binding is terrible. This is a big book and it is a paperback. The book arrived with the glue already separated from the front cover. I would love this book if it were a hardcover, but as it is, this won't stand up in the kitchen and I had to return it.

Wonderful picks and great recipes, but the binding broke and the cover came off after very little use. Really was hoping it wouldn't break the 5th time it was opened.

#208,026 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Bought Kindle version based on recommendations, and feel a bit cheated. I'll give it a 2-star for the basic information. Sample view of book does not include pictures so you don't know until you purchase. Although she gives a lot of good information on working with clays, the pictures are pretty abysmal. If you are looking for pics that inspire, or have clean detail graphics, find another book. All this includes are simplistic children's dinosaurs, animal finger puppets, fruit, and ice cream cones - not very attractive. When you increase size on Kindle the pictures get grainy and out of focus - they don't scale. Not one step by step pictorial on instructions. So...if you are looking for a book that has information and can follow along without visual aids, this book would be a good purchase for you. If you prefer some pictures to lead along, and more inspiring adult themed beginner projects, then I wouldn't buy this one. I'd return it if I could, and spend my money on something more robust.

Easy, understandable instructions given with concise and thorough explanation. I love when instructions are also educational. This book goes beyond educational and truly sparks your interest into getting involved with a new hobby or starting a new craft. You will enjoy Aimee's teachings!

Lots if info for a first timer like myself, love it

great for my granddaughter. she loves them.

This book is fabulous for beginners. The instructions on method are straight forward and the graphics are lovely. Will recommend to others!

Excellent book for beginners. Some cute ideas on small projects. Warning, once you get start d you become addicted quickly.

Some good basic info like precautions, troubleshooting. But where are the pictures? Projects have step by step written instructions but they are not illustrated (Kindle version). Some projects have a small photo of the finished project (or part of it) while some are not shown at all - just written instructions. I don't find a lack of illustrations to be helpful in a crafting how-to book. I hope the physical version of the book is better.

Great introductory book. It only needs better pictures for us who are visual learners. Overall I learned a lot and I'll be using it as reference.

After reading some of the other comments about this book and misconceptions about the title, I must include the comment that this book is definitely not for children, and it is not intended for folks just learning the piano! I would put the difficulty level at advanced.I purchased this book because of the high quality print that was obvious in the Amazon review page, as well as the very accurate transcription of this famous work. Because of the large number of special articulations necessary in this music it is important that the print quality be very acute so you can easily discern the details of pedal, staccato, fingering and numerous comments. This book fits the bill perfectly. It was written with Debussy's approach in the forefront. Comments in the score are in French and English. You can see notes throughout the stanzas like 'hold back a little', A little livelier', 'flutter pedal', Livelier little by little', etc..Another positive note about this edition is that it was "based on the autograph manuscript in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, and on Debussy's recording, made in 1913 for Welte Music Rolls" as explained in the forward. To me, this is a fantastic classic creation to provide the best musical details of Debussy's expectations in transcription format. The detailed forward also provides a lot of insight into how Debussy expects to play each the pieces and there are numerous additional comments throughout the score concerning damper and nuances in speed, performance of particular notes like very short grace notes, and how to improve the melody in certain passages. Truthfully, I have never seen so much detail go into a set of music and have to thank the editors and publisher, Alfred, for producing such an accurate transcription. This work stands head and shoulders above other copies I have (either pdf or hard copy) and I recommend this book for anyone interested in having a thorough analysis and high quality print of Debussy's Children's Corner.

I have really enjoyed this as an adult beginner, I find it easier to play than the baroque and classical pieces for some reason. The harmonies are beautiful and listening to it is a breath of fresh air.

The music is "For Children", but is serious compositions. Not easy of for beginners. Very beautiful pieces.

Easy to read and clear notation in this version of the Debussy Children's Corner Suite

Excellent edition.

I already played it and set it aside for playing again.Anne Stickles

Debussy Children's Corner Suite is an off-the-beaten-path masterwork, arranged for chamber orchestra by Andre' Caplet from a Piano work. This score, mostly error free, is easy to read, well printed, and spaciously laid out. Highly recommended!

Gift for Xmas to son. He started playing it Christmas Day. He felt it was perfect.
