The book covers the span of history that surround the creation of O'Hare International Airport. There are many photographs of the various aircraft that called on O'Hare. I was looking for photos of the exterior of the terminals, front and back, interior photos, aerial shots of the runways, maps or diagrams of the runway configurations at the time of major changes. Text-wise, the book jumps around alot, restating material already discussed; it's not a rigorous chronological history.Clearly this book is better than nothing and it is the only book that comes close, however, I was left wanting more.
This is a brief historical account of just about everything except O'Hare airport. It's a history of the author, the land, Douglas, Chicago politicians and airplanes with a little bit of airport history thrown in. Thoroughly lacking in details. It's also written on a 7th grade reading level. It's not bad, just very superficial. Didn't put much research effort into it.
Alot of details on how O'Hare came about. Love the quick run through of the authors experiences. This is a great gift giver for those that love aviation history or lived in the area.
If you want to know O'hare history this is the book to read. Complete, easy to read, nice selection of photo's. My grandson used it for his history fair project.

Gave it to my brother who worked there for 25+ yrs. Some of the stories in the book he heard first hand from being there. I love the way O'Hare got its name.
It brought back many mrmories to my husband. He worked at O'Hare before retirement.
This is an excellent book about the history of Chicago's O'Hare Airport which was well-researched by the author of the book. Some of the interesting information that this book mentions is as follows: O'Hare Airport is located in the suburbs in the NW part of the Chicago Metro Area. O'Hare Airport is a city with its own laws and customs. Midway Airport was the first major airport in Chicago. Midway Airport opened for business in 1926. O'Hare opened for both domestic and international commercial traffic in October 1955. Midway Airport resides on one square mile while O'Hare Airport has 22 square miles. O'Hare Airport was named for flying ace World War II hero Edward 'Butch" O'Hare. O'Hare has been called a city within a city. Within O'Hare, there are two cemeteries. To this day, any delays due to severe weather at O'Hare continues to affect the flow of air travel on national levels, sometimes delaying or cancelling some flights in many major cities.
