If I were a writer and knew that I would have to give up money if I didn't have a "book" on my publisher's desk by a date certain, and time was up, this is the kind of load of crap I would dish up. What passes for a plot is meaningless: the whole book is fleshed out with WW II history that needn't be narrated as fiction, and arcane minutiae of criminal and civil procedure that couldn't be more boring and, moreover, is woefully inaccurate. I actually felt that I'd been tricked into reading this steamer by being bamboozled by Grisham's reputation, on which I can't comment. BORING!!!!!!

I have always enjoyed John Grisham's novels. This one is a disappointment. First of all I did NOT like the ending at all. I know that's about me and not about the book but I still didn't like it. More than that I didn't like wasting my time thumbing through page after page after page of completely useless narrative. There is a vastly long section at the center of the book where he is writing about the mothers mental problems and the sons law school career that are a complete waste of time. It's obvious that the publishers are paying him by the page or by the word. The result is a huge amount of unnecessary text that doesn't really contribute to the story, that is very useful in putting me to sleep. This is not the first time this is happened. I have found it happening more and more frequently with other authors.

This is a disjointed, dislikable book - a soap opera with some courtroom window dressing and the Bataan Death March thrown in for no apparent reason except alleged depth of feeling. The mystery of the main character is that he won't talk - a sort of misguided Clint Eastwood Man With No Name anti-hero. Not talking can work on the screen but does tend to drag on on the page. The wife does a bad thing while her husband is slogging around in the Philippines, although it isn't clear what that is until the end. Consequences ensue. The hero kills somebody else. The generations-old family farm is lost to a shyster lawyer. Almost everybody dies. Who knew what? When did they know it? Who was wrong? In the end, who cares? I can't believe I read the whole thing.

If you wish to spend at least 1/3 of the book getting a histoty lesson on Gen McAuthor and Japan's takeover of the Philippenes then you may enjoy the book. I skipped over the large majority of this section. The book also drug on and on in other parts. I wanted to enjoy a thriller like the authors earlier books, not a sad, tedious and boring book like this one. this will be my last book by this author.

I was really eager to read this book, and hated it. Long long descriptive passages about mundane things. So much dramatic build up about nothing. The war parts are appreciated but the rest was a waste of time witn unsympathetic characters. Time to find a new fave author.

This was a bad read. Too much information on mostly known history. Agree, not enough character development on some people. Way too much detail before "secret" was FINALLY revealed in last 10 pages!!

A lot of long arduous filler to finally reveal nothing of surprise. Dont believe the hype. This is not his best work. I feel more like the victim of a con job than a satisfied fan.

I read all of Mr. Grisham's novels and look forward to each release with anticipation. But none before have held my interest as much as The Reckoning. My uncle through marriage is a survivor of the Bataan Death March. He never spoke of his experiences. Not a history buff, I had no understanding of the atrocaties of this war. This novel was spellbinding from start to finish.

Waited 6 months for 7th Edition hoping to find new perspectives from Mr. Ellis. Unfortunately, compared to 6th Edition published four years ago- there is no discernible change or revision to content. No wonder the the publisher or the reviewers make no comments concerning the "new edition". No comments in Preface, Introduction, Front and Back Cover or the inside flaps!! What is the point of publishing another edition when there is nothing "new" or updated?? Just marketing. Hadn't expected that from McGraw Hill.

Truly one of the best books on successful investing for those who aren't financial experts and who aren't yet wealthy and who aren't day-traders, but who want to be successful long-term investors and to live a comfortable life before and during retirement. It explains why the only real chance that everyday people now have for being successful investors is to use index funds for the majority of their investment money. It shows in easily understood terms how and why the investment world has changed so much over the last 50 years that it is practically impossible even for investors and professional fund managers using high-cost actively-managed funds to beat the market with any extended rate of success. It shows why there is a much higher rate of financial success by using low-cost, passive index funds to closely match the performance of the markets. This book will open your eyes to the truths of present-day investing. I am not a book critic or a financial expert of any kind. I'm just a retired guy who has made many investing mistakes during my life using several financial advisors and as many strategies to try to invest for retirement (not using index funds). Had I read an earlier edition of this book much earlier in my life, I would have been in much better financial shape now. But better late than never.

It could have been covered in maybe four chapters if it wasn't so repetitive. More if it attempted to prove any of the assertions made. I agree with everything written, but this book wouldn't have convinced me. Maybe previous editions were better written?

Short and to the point, this is one of the best books I've read for the individual investor. It doesn't go into much detail of specific asset classes, but has a great, high level, evidence based approach to one's overall investment approach. It's probably good to revisit once every few years as one's situation evolves. It may also be good for financial advisers to bridge the gap with clients. Additionally, the high level theme can apply to many of life's endeavors.

I've done a lot of reading re: Investments. I am trying to spend less time on my investments and get at least the same return.This book really made sense. I loved the analogies which will help my wife to understand "the Market" as well. Now if I canjust follow my NEW Investment Philosophy, I'm sure all will go well.

This is the best book on investing ever! I have a large account and this book has made a huge difference. I switched to their theory in Jan of 2017 and thus have history.

A quick read with some good points. Investing 101 level book. If you are new to investing, a worthwhile read.

This is a great cookbook. I have made so many things out of it and they are all delicious. Most of the recipes are lengthy but tasty!

Found a recipe I've been looking for for years!

Seeing that my book is about in need of replacement after 15 years of constant use I am looking at getting a replacement. If I want a lock stock and barrel take on a dish I always refer to this book. I cook better than anyone I know. People love to eat my food. Its in no small part to this book. Jim was WAY ahead of his time trying to teach you how to cook and about your ingrediants, not just give you a good recipe. Buy it now, and invite me to dinner.

I keep coming back for more and am never disappointed! Excellent versatile recipes that are easy to understand and make. My go to cookbook for many years.

What a great cookbook! As the title suggests, this book is packed with "Big Flavor" recipes. Mr. Fobel has mastered walking that fine line between not enough and too much spice. The resulting recipes are awesome. My current favorites include "Harlem Meatloaf" and his fresh roasted "green chili" -- both of which are absolutely incredible.In addition to the recipes, his cookbook contains lots of little factoids about cooking, techniques, and ingredients.What a great book.Steve

Out of the hundreds of cookbooks I have this is my most consitently used. Everything is absolutely incredible. Many of the recipes are a bit time consuming but very much worth it! It's full of neat info and tidbits of trivia. Try the bolognese sauce and the barbeque sauce. Both are out of this world.Ken

About the Author

Sherry Gore is the the author of two cookbooks, "Simply Delicious Amish Cooking" and "Me, Myself and Pie" and co-author of the novel "Made with Love.” She is also a weekly scribe for the national edition of the Amish newspaper, The Budget, established in 1890. The National Geographic Channel featured Sherry prominently their documentary series, Amish: Out of Order. Sherry's culinary adventures have been seen on NBC Daytime, the Today Show, Mr. Food Test Kitchen and more. Sherry is a year-round resident of beautiful, sun-kissed Sarasota, Florida, the vacation paradise of the Plain People. She has three children and is a member of a Beachy Amish Mennonite church. When not spending time with her family, writing, or eating, Sherry is a cooking show host, and an official pie contest judge.

I received a copy from netgalley to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.Not all Amish or Mennonite people grew up as a plain person. There are people like Sherry Gore who were looking for meaning to life and stumbled upon the lifestyle. Sherry grew up in California and Florida. When her parents split she chose to live with her father in California. She grew up in an affluent area, yet she was lonely inside. She had been exposed to the love of Jesus through several family members. Because of several bad choices in her life, Sherry was sent from her father's house to her mother's in Florida. Here she lived as a homeless person for six months before eventually getting married, having two children, and moving back to California. Sherry was still looking for something but didn't know what when she and her first husband divorced. After being a single parent raising her daughter's the best she could, she met and married her second husband. Toby loved her and her girls. He gave Sherry the only son she had. This marriage did not last once Sherry found what she was looking for, life lived the way the Bible speaks. A Plain Life. However, her divorce did not mean the end of her relationship to her husband. Sherry leans on her faith as she learns about her oldest daughter's life threatening diseases. I will interject here and say that I live about a mile and a half from Sherry's house. Because I shop in the Pinecraft area I became familiar with her and her cookbooks. I followed along and prayed for her daughter Jacinda until her passing this last spring. Although it is not in the book she remained friends with her ex-husband Toby whom she lost last month. If nothing else this book shows that God can take someone who is so messed up and use them for good. Through her book she shows that God doesn't judge who you are or were as a condition of his acceptance of you. There are many who will say she is not truly Amish or Mennonite. To this I say, unless you live in the area and see and understand that there are many different types of Amish/Mennonite, just like there are many different types of Baptists, you should not judge. Besides, God won't separate us when we get to heaven so why should we worry about it here on earth? this story is her journey to become a "plain" woman, not about what the Amish are all about.

Part memoir, definitely not what I expected. Perhaps growing up around more traditional Amish, it's difficult for me to imagine some of the ones in this book....however she did live in my neck of the woods for a while. I DID enjoy the book, I'm just not sure what I was expecting. Perhaps leaving her husband to become Amish (in a roundabout way) totally confused me. She was looking for "her people" and a "way of life" as opposed, in my opinion, of looking for Jesus. I can't imagine Him telling her to end her marriage either.

Yes this book is a memoir. A tale of a woman searching for her place in the world, "her people" as she shared. But I find myself disagreeing with her choices after her conversion. Finding Christ is so monumental to one's life but it is even greater when you find Him in the midst of circumstances prior to knowing Him. Leaving her husband, Toby, is not something that Our Lord would ever condone. And if she feels it was from Our Lord, then the Bible is wrong since it clearly states we are to stay in our marriage even if our spouse never comes to know Him. I believe Ms Gore wanted acceptance and to be loved. But once again it is not through community that we find that love....no, it is through His Love for us. When she accepted Christ, she became His child. Accepted into the Beloved.Her daughter's illness was a turning point for this family. I understood her decision to move as a way to bring calmness to an otherwise chaotic time in the lives.

I first heard of Sherry Gore on Facebook, as a wonderful cook and author, and as the mom of Jacinda, whose story was offered in Sherry's posts. There was a powerful testimony of God's love, and Sherry's family's love for the Lord, through all I read. So I ordered this book before it was published and looked forward to its' arrival on my doorstep.The least I can possibly say is that Sherry's story and her honesty in telling it blew me out of the water. It is such a contrast to what I expected to read, which I have to say to myself, shame on me. You can rarely read a person's story in their face. You might get hints of the life lived, but you rarely know what the true story is.The most I will say is that THIS BOOK MUST BE READ by anyone who needs to feel an ounce of hope for themselves in their life. Sherry tells the truth, and she tells the TRUTH, and life-giving and life-changing hope is presented here.

Very informative book as it takes us through a troubled past into a journey of self forgiveness and acceptance by others. I agree with other readers that the author didn't need to divorce to become Amish. Forgiveness and acceptance is found in the One who paid it all, not an Amish community. Though I see the allure of the community and her feeling of finally belonging, I feel the author was looking for boundaries and rules, which may be what she needed to live a better life. There is nothing wrong with her self and community imposed rules, but I don't think God expects us all to wear plain clothes and grow our hair long. He is way bigger than that!!its not about rules; it's what HE did for us! I loved this book and read it in one sitting. Very good read.

Roger N. Meyer is the executive director of the Portland Asperger Syndrome Research Project. He was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in 1997. He worked for many years as a cabinet-maker, gaining direct experience as a trainer, writer and individual counsellor. He has recently worked as a parent/student special education advocate and a support group moderator. I was disappointed by this book. It truly is a workbook....meaning that there are a lot of blank pages and list to be completed without much guidance on how to go about it. I wanted more information and direct knowledge of the modern job market and how to adapt to it. This is just lists of things to do on your own. I would advise looking elsewhere.

If you are someone who is, or know someone who is, suffering from Asperger's and you want to develop (better) job skills this is the book for you. The author has Asperger's, as is obvious from the structure, detail, and methodical nature of the book. Lots of forms - LOTS of forms. The book is designed to help the Asperger's person, their family, or a professional prepare for finding the Asperger's person the right job, get them through the interpersonal issues involved in interviewing, and deal with the demands of the job. The personal experiences of the author help color his presentation of the material and help illustrate for the reader that these things can be accomplished and the Asperger's person can thrive in the work environment with the right preparation and planning.

As an Aspie trying to navigate the confusing and silent world of employment, this has been a gift. I'm so glad I found it. It's clear, concise, but doesn't talk down to the reader, which is something I am *very* happy about. Highly recommend.

This book is very user friendly-has some good basic information-and some activities to practice with-it arrived in a timely manner and was in excellent condition-

This book wasn't very helpful for my husband who has AS. Not bad, but it's just not very user friendly.

The material in this particular book is very helpful. My personal tastes, while not too picky, had me putting this book down and opting not to continue reading. The book is divided into three main parts which focus on different aspects of one's working career. Having said that, I haven't completed the first chapter so there isn't much I can offer beside 'if you don't like taking part in boring mediocre activities that achieve little for a smart person - don't bother with this one'.The main gist of the text is about finding employment options that suit the individual while avoiding ones that are more demanding on problem areas.Hope this helps, just not my preferred read.

I thought this would be a workbook to help get and keep a job. Instead it is more of a self journey. Not a bad thing for someone to do, but not what is needed when the person with AS is prone to sabatoging her efforts without realizing it. It would have been nice to have had some assistance in getting the first couple jobs in life.

I payed about 3 dollars for this book used, and when I got it, it looked like it had barely been touched, and it was in great shape. No markings, etc.
